What is Learning to Learn?
Learning to Learn is a research-based learning and thinking skills system.
LTL is delivered in schools through teacher-training, where teachers learn
- how to integrate LTL skills into their classroom teaching and
- how to organize the classroom so that the focus is on active student learning.
LTL has significant, lasting impacts on
- students’ academic performance across the curriculum;
- critical thinking skills;
- reading, writing, math and science skills; and
- scores on statewide standardized tests
LTL students move away from rote learning towards inquiry-based learning. They also acquire skills that help them use their natural visual learning abilities.
Why is LTL important?
LTL has been proven effective. The U.S. Department of Education evaluated over 700 promising programs. Learning to Learn is the only program found to significantly improve- students’ academic performance across the curriculum;
- scores on standardized tests; and
- graduation rates.
What is the LTL School Improvement Program?
Teachers learn to incorporate LTL into the classroom through:- the LTL student workbook, Learning to Learn: Succeeding in School and Beyond;
- ongoing teacher training and support through a school-based LTL Coach.
