Dr. Marcia Heiman is Chief Executive Officer of Learning to Learn, Inc., a
consulting and publishing firm in Somerville, MA. The firm provides Learning
to Learn seminars and materials for educators and companies.
Dr. Heiman is the co-developer of the National Education Association’s Building Thinking Skills series and co-editor of the NEA’s Thinking Skills Instruction: Concepts and Techniques, co-author of Learning to Learn: Critical Thinking Skills for the Quality Workforce; and co-developer of Learning to Learn, an interactive video course which IBM made available to its entire workforce worldwide.
Dr. Heiman has served as director of college learning centers at a number of colleges and universities, including the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of New Hampshire, Roxbury Community College, and Boston College. She has tested the impact of LTL on educationally disadvantaged students at these colleges and universities and at public schools in Boston, Detroit, and Pittsburgh. LTL’s controlled studies showing measurable changes in learning have been externally validated by the U.S. Department of Education. As a result of these studies, the D.O.E. has recommended LTL for national dissemination.
Dr. Heiman holds a Bachelor of Arts from New York University, a Masters in Research in Instruction from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a doctorate in Behavioral Sciences from the University of Michigan.
