Dear Friends:

Welcome to Learning to Learn®. I'm happy to have this opportunity to introduce the 10th edition of the LTL college textbook to new LTL students and instructors.

I want you to feel comfortable as you start to use LTL. The skills in this system will come easily to you, because they're all built on the natural learning skills that successful students use – the skills you use every day without thinking about them. Every time you cross a street in traffic, or find a bargain at the supermarket, you're asking yourself questions about what's in front of you: "Where is there a break in the traffic? Which brand is least expensive?" But you probably drop these natural questioning skills when you learn in a school setting. Like most students, you try to memorize and memorize, until learning is just a chore.

LTL will bring back the excitement of discovering new things that you experienced when you first began learning about the world, before you were confronted with school and tests. You'll build on your natural questioning skills, and "translate" back and forth between what you see and what you think about, between the verbal and visual facets of learning. You'll even feel that you've "beat the system" by predicting exam questions; and you'll actually learn more and in a deeper way.

If you're a new LTL instructor, I'm sure you'll be excited, as I always am when I teach LTL, to find how easy it can be to help students discover their natural talents, and recognize how gifted they are. Please feel welcome to call me at any time if you have questions or concerns about how you can help your students get the most out of Learning to Learn®.
